Session One
The State of the District
January 20, 2015
The Lisle community showed its support for Lisle CUSD 202 and theVision 202 project when over 150 parents, non-parents, community members, and district
staff members joined in the firstVision 202 session.
Vision 202’s first community engagement session began with an introduction by co-chairs Susan Stears and Bill Buchelt. Their goal was to encourage and
emphasize the importance of collaboration between the Lisle community and Lisle CUSD 202 to form a shared partnership focusing on the success of the
PreK-12 learning environment for the students in the school district.
Dr.Keith Filipiak, Superintendent of Lisle CUSD 202, presided as the keynote speaker for the firstVision 202 session. To set the stage for future discussions,Dr.
Filipiak presented“The State of the District” that proved to be an engaging overview of the facts, celebrations, and challenges currently facing Lisle CUSD 202.
Dr. Filipiak’s overview established a clear context for the evening and future small group session topics designed to elicit stimulating conversations and more
importantly community feedback.
Following the introductory presentation, the main activity of the eventing came when participants collaborated in small groups to discuss three important topics:
1) Celebrations/Surprises/Concerns 2) Future strategic topic areas for the upcomingVision 202 sessions and 3)Additional comments and/or concerns. During
this work time, district residents had the unique opportunity to discuss ideas and ask questions that will be incorporated into the content for upcoming
presentations.
The night culminated with a representative from each group sharing their small group consensus regarding the work topics with the largerVision 202 audience.
The rich feedback was interesting and provided a strong foundation for future community engagement sessions. TheVision 202 FacilitatingTeam, comprised of
community members and district representatives, were thrilled by the attitude and comments made from participants…the evening was a success!
